In the ancient time, the holes occupied by the Ba and Chu natives were dark and damp, and often under attacks by the wild beasts. Shennong Shi, the tribe leader, also regarded as one of the great kings in ancient times, taught the natives to build the stilt houses on the banks of the river.
Nowadays, you can still see such houses along the river. It is safe, and cool in Summer. (Because the river is shielded by the high mountains, it is not cold in winter.)
